December 2005

Practice, practice, practice!!  One of our greatest challenges is to maintain the endurance and self-discipline to practice.

The basic sounds on the djembe  (bass, tone, slap) are critical.   The ability to play these three different sounds is esssentiall to learning traditional African drumming.

The members of Magbana taught us the basic sounds on the djembe, the importance of practicing in 'time' and the need to keep playing even when it seems like it isn't getting any better.  Practice leads to the ability to play well.

December was a short month kept busy with all the festivities of the Holidays, yet we managed to fit in two sessions of drumming.

Our December circle was free and peaceful.  Thank you to each of you who participate and make this experience continue!

Happy Holidays!
